Have you experienced 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙮𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 8.0? I finished watching this series tonight and a couple of late blooming scenes of robot centered digressions (these aren't as random as my description may compel you to wonder) fail to derail me from being in awe of this story's emotional brilliance. My surprise is not due to 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙮𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 8.0 being an anime since most of the anime which I've encountered is psychologically and emotionally sharp; rather, my amazement is made manifest due to my experience with natural disaster narratives predominately being modern American ones which are founded upon a popular formula of divorced middle aged Dads, their estranged children (as well as their scolding former wives), and scene stealing destruction from soap operatic Nature. Even so, the souls who birthed and nurtured 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙮𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 8.0 into existence display an emotionally driven wisdom which is authentic, standing even if the columns of the aforementioned films' knowing reliance on marketable tropes were knocked away and if it remained amidst the anime which was priorly alluded to.
~ ~ ~ I was compelled to pause 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙮𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 8.0's final episode a few times so I could reorient myself lest sorrow's current swept me out into its depths. This is not to say that the anime is a monotone tragedy, far from it. 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙮𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 8.0 is composed with grief which will embracingly hold you just behind your diaphragm (as the aches from your heart radiate upon that meeting place and beyond), this is true, yet it also emanates steadfast childlike wonder and waves of multi-note empathy, which will tenderly wash over your soul as thankfulness for one's loved ones (whether they be familial or befriended) is remembered for life is quick (as well as swifter for some) and fragile. Those tangible concepts which the creators painted with also resonated with me, beyond experiencing their excellent application, since I paint with those emotive elements in my storytelling too. ~ ~ ~ P.S. Balanced Realism: I admire this story for emphatically ending while leaving some threads loose.
